Hi, I’m Courtney Zeni.

If you’ve found yourself here, you might be wondering why.
Same, to be honest.
My name is Courtney and I’m a scientist and author beginning to explore the world of science fiction writing. For years, I have published non-fiction articles and given presentations on a wide range of scientific topics, mainly in psychiatry.
I’ve always been a dreamer. I have written books, poems, and jokes for as long as I can remember, but few people have known. It’s only now that I’ve found the courage to not only put some of my bigger ideas to paper, but to share them with you all. Turns out, having a near-death experience can do that for you.
I am admittedly not a big reader- not because I don’t want to read, but because it is difficult for me (thank you, ADHD). I have also been a better reader with a pen in my hand, writing something of my own to synthesize what I’ve read. I also read so much in my professional life that at the end of a long day, the last thing I want to do is jumble more words in my head. I much prefer to unwind with the newest streaming thriller series and a huge bowl of popcorn and peanut M & Ms.
When I reviewed my first novel LIMINAL with an editor, I proposed it as a psychological thriller, or some sort of blend of similar genres. When she told me to lean into the sci-fi genre more heavily, I was a bit shocked. When I thought of sci-fi, I thought of robots and dystopian worlds in the future, but I am now learning that many of the shows and movies I love most are considered sci-fi, though they do not fit the textbook sci-fi look and feel. This may be obvious to some, but this is a learning experience for me.
I obviously have a lot more to learn, but I am excited. Join me in my writing journey as I embarrass and challenge myself in completely uncharted territory- I promise you it will be fun, and at the very least, mildly entertaining. Get out the popcorn, and don’t forget the peanut M & Ms.
xo,
Court
